The association
The Högbensjön hoitoyhdistys association was formed in 1998 to improve the water quality, well-being and recreational aspects of the lake Högbensjön. The association is run and funded by the members and the executive board selected by the members.
Lake Högbensjön
Högbensjön is situated in southern Finland in the municipalities of Ingå and Raseborg. The lake is relatively small, the surface area is about 3 km2. The water depth is only 3 m on average. Consequently, the amount of water in the lake is rather small, therefore the lake is vulnerable to poor water quality. This is reflected by low oxygen content in the lake during the winter and growth of blue-green algae in the summer. These are some of the reasons for why the association was initially founded.
Latest news
The following two actions were initiated in 2024:
- it is not allowed to use a motor boat on this lake. The exception is a small electric outboard motor.
- all fishing is restricted to a worm-fishing rod between the 15th of May and the 15th June. The reason for this is to protect the spawning season of the fish, especially that of pikeperch. The pikeperch stocking in the lake was carried out by the association.
